Farmer & the Naiad on Odonata Farm

How could you not swoon over a dreamy guest house nestled in the mountains of North Carolina?

Just outside of Asheville and decorated with the perfect touches to create the ultimate getaway from everyday life. Sarabeth created a space where you can daydream about a simple life with the pleasures of freshly mowed grass, a growing garden nearby and the sun setting over a golden hill. If you’re planning a visit to the Asheville area, take a peek at this perfect spot.

How Farmer & the Naiad guest house on the Odonata Farm came to be, words by the owner Sarahbeth:

“The Farmer & the Naiad” cottage name encompasses what we love most about this place, farming both our fleurs, vegetable patch, and tiny orchard start & the wetland, creek, and pond that help this spot of paradise thrive.

The abundant water sources give us diverse and amazing flora and fauna. Redwing Blackbirds, Kingfishers, Great Blue Herons, White Cranes, multiple types of fireflies, and countless dragonflies and damselflies flit about. Odonata is the latin order for dragonflies and damselflies and it's what we named the farmplace as a whole.

Naiads are the water spirits that dwell in rivers, streams, ponds, marshlands, and waterfalls. I started thinking about the marriage of these two things: the farm and the water - and how they encompass all 4 elements that really make up the magic and essence of life: The Farmer tills the earth working with sun & soil. The Naiad is the guardian of the wetlands, streams, ponds & breezes sustaining many important and symbiotic creatures to our ecology. I started looking at the cottage as the place where these two lovers -the farmer & the naiad- meet. We've tailored the cottage to their story. It's a little bit of Appalachia and a little bit of old country magical lore coming together to weave a romantic tale.
